Bentley’s iconic W-12 engine is making one of its final appearances in the stunning Batur Convertible, an ultra-exclusive model named after a crater lake in Bali, Indonesia. This limited edition follows the Batur coupe launched in 2022 and will be produced in just 16 units, compared to the coupe’s 18.

The Batur Convertible boasts the most powerful iteration of Bentley's 6.0-liter twin-turbo W-12 engine, delivering an impressive 740 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. This cabriolet matches the performance of its coupe counterpart, marking one of the last applications of this legendary engine before it’s retired later this summer.

The W-12 engine has been a cornerstone of Bentley’s lineup for over 20 years, increasing in power by nearly 40% while reducing fuel consumption by 25%. Power is channeled through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, perfectly suited for this grand tourer. Bentley’s engineers have equipped the Batur with a bespoke Akrapovič exhaust system made entirely from titanium, including the striking 3D-printed exhaust finishers.

Official images showcase the Batur Convertible with its soft top neatly folded away, though it can be raised or lowered in just 19 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph. Bentley promises limitless customization options, allowing owners to tailor every detail of their vehicle.

The Batur Convertible is a two-seater, unlike the more practical Continental GT Convertible, which accommodates rear passengers. It features a unique design with 22-inch wheels and an integrated ducktail spoiler. The car's exterior is finished in a striking Vermillion Gloss satin paint with glossy carbon fiber accents, while the interior features rose gold inserts and a luxurious design reminiscent of the Continental GT Convertible.

Although Bentley has not disclosed the exact price, the Batur Convertible is expected to be priced higher than the $2.1 million charged for the coupe. This premium pricing is significantly more than the starting price of approximately $330,000 for a Continental GT Speed Convertible.

Despite the W-12’s imminent retirement and the upcoming discontinuation of the V-10 engines in the Huracan and R8, the Volkswagen Group continues to innovate with large-displacement engines. The Lamborghini Revuelto’s V-12 and Bugatti’s forthcoming V-16 hypercar set to replace the Chiron ensure that high-performance engineering remains alive and well.
