Punjab's New Traffic Safety Measures: Driving License Centre and E-Challans

Punjab's current provincial administration is taking significant steps to enhance road safety in the city. Recent updates from the Traffic Police include the opening of a new driving license center on Mall Road, catering to both the business community and the general public, and the introduction of electronic challans (e-challans) for various traffic violations.

New Driving License Centre

The new driving license center is conveniently located at the Business Facilitation Centre in the Al-Falah Building on Mall Road. This facility provides a range of services, including issuing trader learner permits, duplicate licenses, renewals, and international licenses.

To streamline the licensing process, the Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) has implemented measures to handle a high volume of applicants efficiently. In December 2023, testing sessions were conducted at four different locations to facilitate this initiative. The new center on Mall Road is a continuation of these efforts, designed to make obtaining a driver’s license faster and more accessible.

Additionally, there is an existing center at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries dedicated to business needs. For those who prefer convenience, a 24/7 online service is also available.

E-Challans

In a bid to improve traffic discipline and ensure road safety, the City Traffic Police (CTP) Lahore has introduced e-challans for violations such as lane line, zebra crossing, and stop line infractions. This initiative is aimed at deterring motorists from committing these common traffic offenses, which often lead to accidents and pose dangers to pedestrians.

Under this new system, Safe City cameras will capture images of vehicles violating traffic rules. E-challans will be generated and sent directly to the registered addresses of the vehicle owners, eliminating the need for physical traffic stops and ensuring that violators are held accountable.

The CTP has urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and avoid violations that disrupt the flow of traffic and endanger the safety of pedestrians and other road users.

By implementing these measures, Punjab’s provincial administration aims to create safer roads and promote responsible driving habits across the city.
