The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) has introduced a new Smart Body-Cam Challan System as part of Punjab's ongoing efforts to modernize traffic enforcement and improve transparency.

Launched under the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the digital system is designed to make the challan process more efficient, reduce disputes between motorists and traffic wardens, and strengthen accountability through video-based evidence.

What Is the Smart Body-Cam Challan System?

The new system replaces traditional paper-based ticketing with digital enforcement tools.

Traffic wardens are now equipped with body-worn cameras and handheld electronic devices that record violations and document interactions with motorists in real time.

Every challan issued is supported by video or photographic evidence, helping ensure greater accuracy and transparency during traffic enforcement.

How the Digital Challan System Works

The new process has been designed to simplify traffic ticket issuance while minimizing errors.

1. Violation Is Recorded

When a traffic offence is detected such as speeding, jumping a red light, or riding a motorcycle without a helmet the body camera captures video and photographic evidence of the incident.

2. Instant SMS Notification

The traffic warden enters the violation into a handheld device, automatically generating an SMS notification to the vehicle owner's registered mobile number through the official 8070 service.

3. View the Evidence

The SMS contains a secure link that allows the recipient to access the recorded images or video related to the traffic violation.

This gives motorists the opportunity to verify the reason for the challan before making payment.

4. Online Fine Payment

A 17-digit PSID (Payment Slip ID) is generated for every challan.

Motorists can pay their fines through several digital channels, including:

  • ePay Punjab
  • Mobile banking apps
  • Digital wallets
  • Internet banking
  • ATMs

The digital payment process removes the need for manual fee collection and helps speed up challan settlement.

Benefits of the New System

The Smart Body-Cam Challan System offers several advantages for both motorists and law enforcement agencies.

Greater Transparency

Every traffic violation is supported by recorded evidence, reducing disagreements over whether an offence actually occurred.

Better Accountability

Since body cameras record both the motorist and the traffic officer, the system promotes professional conduct during every interaction.

This protects citizens as well as traffic wardens by maintaining a clear record of each incident.

Reduced Human Intervention

Because challan records are uploaded directly to centralized police databases, the system limits opportunities for unauthorized changes or manual interference.

Digital processing also improves record management and overall efficiency.

A Step Toward Smarter Traffic Management

The introduction of body-worn cameras and digital challans reflects Lahore Traffic Police's broader move toward technology-driven traffic management.

By combining real-time evidence, automated notifications, and online payments, the system aims to create a more transparent, reliable, and convenient experience for road users.

Final Thoughts

The Smart Body-Cam Challan System marks an important step in the digital transformation of traffic enforcement in Lahore.

With video-backed evidence, instant SMS alerts, and multiple online payment options, the initiative is expected to improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and make the challan process more efficient for both motorists and traffic officials.
